Utterly gorgeous return from the leader of the sadly missed Long Blondes. We cannot wait for the LP to come out. Produced by Rough Trade favourite Bernard Butler it is sure to be glorious. For now though we shall enjoy Homeward Bound.
This nu-disco act certainly walk a fine line between Mika and MGMT, it could be the perfect success formula...it could be their downfall. But this is classic dance floor fodder and you can't hold that against them. There is a lot of great pop music about right now. Ignore the glittery video for the new single though we think that Fireheart is far superior. Oh and they are from Manchester...standard.
Just saw this band at an excellent Old Blue Last Night curated by fellow up-and-comers O Children. Came home after one to many daylight savings G&T's but Cliffhanger is on so that's cool.
This is going to be the first single from the new album "Total Life Forever". We weren't that impressed with the Spanish Sahara teaser thing but this seems to be a return to form. The sound is a little darker but you can still hear the trademark tinny guitar sound that made tracks like Cassius the bomb.
I know what you're thinking and believe me we thought it too. Michelin man coated that bitch! This is pretty intense stuff though from a goth punk chick straight outa Wisconsin. Trained in the dark operatic arts she combines some Siouxsie Sioux yelping with a smokey 60's flavour.
In the wake of the frankly pretty boring new MGMT material we point you towards another band to fulfill all of your psychedelic synth-pop needs. We heard lots of kind words regarding their performance at SXSW. No doubt they will be lumped in with the whole "Chillwave" scene but hey its not a bad scene to be in. Though the NY Times seems less than impressed.
We are loving this Sao Paulo quintet and cannot wait for the album to drop this year. Could be a wonderful summer hit and a nice change of pace from all the shoegazing going on right now. Be sure to check out some of the excellent remixes on the myspace.
We plucked this band from the blogosphere for your audible pleasure. Not much is known about this outfit yet other than they are slaving in away in the studio. We are pretty pleased with the results so far. Don't listen to it if you are sad though its pretty goddamn bleak. Howling Owls - Snake Charmer (No Money In The Bank)
Rusko has just released this absolute banger for free; so we don't feel bad sharing the love with our friends. We are happy to wait it out for the elusive Dre album when stuff like this comes along. You take your time Dr. Make some more headphones and computers to put in Lady Gaga Videos.
Another smash from the Ed Banger stable; Jamaica or Poney Poney as they used to be known as have been reworked by Xavier De Rosnay (AKA as the little one from Justice). 2010 is looking pretty good for the French label and we are looking forward to some serious partying with them in the coming months. Jamaica play in London April 4th as part of the Kitsune extravaganza at Heaven.
The interweb is rife with speculation about this shadowy LA twosome, not much is known about them it seems though aside from them being brothers and that the 7" comes out at the end of March. We are pretty excited though and are liking the sound. The band come with a blog which consists of mainly tweaked out tracks and not much else.
Julian Casablancas is the latest star to join Andy Samberg and co on his Lonely Island. Samberg channeling the spirit of Lloyd Dobler with the boombox held high is about the only amusing thing in this video...oh apart from the Spanish guy doing the Bartman. We have seen better from this troupe in past hits Like A Boss and Motherlover. Still made us snigger though.
Ed Banger's very own sex kitten has had an album in the works for what feels like forever but it seems to have finally arrived. Unfortunately we only have it in paper form, which doesn't work in our cd player. What a tease. This very special Mike D remix of MC's Can Kiss will have to tide us over until the release. Meow. Uffie - MC's Can Kiss (Mike D Remix)
We are big fans of Kavinsky and can't wait for the impending album. Latest track Nightcall is sure to kick ass though. Let me break it down: Vocals from Kavinsky and Lovefoxx, produced by Guy-Manuel De Homen-Christo and mixed by SebastiAn. Do you need another reason?
Poor Corey Haim, it was always going to happen to one of them. And now Corey Feldman has to carry on the Corey name without him...Corey. I just like saying that. But in honor of his passing here is an uplifting track from standout movie The Lost Boys.
This Manchester outfit is sure to go far with the city boasting some of the best young indie talent out there. They have impressed many whilst touring with current NME faves Bombay Bicycle Club, the band themselves admitting that they were worried that their support act was better than them. Fans will be able to judge this again on March 25th at the Topman CTRL gig in Oxford when the two are reunited.
Until then here is the lovely bouncey new track "Takeover" and the cross-dressing video for sure-fire smash "Face In":
Survivors of the Cajan Dance Party and old school friends of recent NME awards winners Bombay Bicycle Club it's definitely worth heading on down to Camden to check out this much hyped band.
Deluxe edition of Ciao means remixes galore including a gorgeous silky smooth effort from Chromeo. It's a perfect mix of the twos sexed up synth beats laced with a classic Dave P vocal. Tiga - What You Need (Chromeo Remix)
Latest video from fashionably dark synthettes Fan Death. With CSS still in the wilderness its nice to see some female electro groups kicking some ass. Looking forward to a Fan Death/LCMDF double feature at the summer festivals.
Actress Zooey Dechanel and Singer Songwriter M. Ward will be releasing their second album at the end of the month. "Thieves" the opening track from the LP "Volume 2" is a promising effort, perhaps putting to rest fears of actress-singer crossover acts of which many have disappointed over the years. Perhaps a little twee/Moldy Peaches for some we think its pleasant enough.
Heard this on Laurene Laverne a couple of weeks ago. It is utterly bizarre and yet strangely compelling. Main track "I Hear Flies" has an amazing crescendo; the final bars sounding like the final moments of an Eastenders episode.
They sang "Liar" on the radio; a track that has all the hallmarks of an Oompa Loompa chorus and yet there is a depth and darkness to their work which distracts you from this. It might be their hooded garb but we would love to see them collaborate with Klaxons on something. We just think it would work.
One of our favorite bands at the moment. Fantastic female/male vocal pop sound. French of course, very surprised they haven't been picked up by Kitsune. If the myspace is anything to go by the incomparable Mr Oizo is involved or an influence. Either way its working for them. Looking forward to a UK show.
You can't beat a bit of down and dirty (South) hip hop. I'm not a massive fan of Ludacris' latest track but I think this Rusko mashup does it some justice. Tracking is off by about 2 beats initially but it works itself out. Bouncy Bouncy.
Once again OkGo present us with captivating video clip. Getting ever more impressive the band continue with the lo-fi DIY direction. Utterly charming, though the opening shot is a little disturbing. Think slaughterhouse worker playing with a toy car.
This one has been doing the rounds for some time but I think its a good way to start the blog. Still not quite sure if it's all a massive joke. It is almost so ridiculous that it has to be real.
