Best Coast

We love Best Coast. Not only are they fellow cat lovers but they also make amazing laid back West Coast surf rock. Boyfriend is the sort of track that we want to dance in slow motion to in a sweaty summer basement gig and then suddenly rush out into the cool night air as it climaxes.

Best Coast - Boyfriend

Cool Britannia

We are not overt fans of Spotify but this playlist has been an absolute joy recently for whatever reason. It is full of gems that we forgot even existed as well as a few too many ruined by the world of advertising. Click on the link to be transported Tron like to the Spotify world. We picked out some of the best for you here though which include moving pictures yay!

D'ya'reckon?

"Blur or Oasis? Actually I like Pulp best. Fuck you I like Suede best!" (Probable conversation circa Britpop era)

Empire Records anyone?

Sunday Girl

A quick skim of hypem this morning revealed a new pop starlet that had completely past us by. She goes by the name of Sunday Girl and has recently had one of her singles given the Diplo treatment. You can get a copy of that track here.

What peaked our interest was the knowledge that her new single will be her downright sexy cover of the stunning Laura Branigan classic "Self Control". This is available to listen to on her myspace and there is a link to a Fenech Soler remix on the link above.

Chromeo

It's been a while since we have heard anything new from Chromeo but they have always been in our hearts and on our playlists ever since they blew Dizzee off the stage at that most ill-fated of festivals; Tales Of The Jackalope.

The new album "Business Casual" gets released in August and the boys have given us a taster with the free first single "Night By Night" which follows on perfectly from the sexy slickness of Fancy Footwork. The second single is also available now but you'll have to find that one for yourselves...it's definitely worth it.

They are playing Lovebox on the Sunday, where's your ticket?

Chromeo - Night By Night

Aeroplane

Aeroplane are on top of the world right now: One of the most hyped groups on the planet and are just about to release a super-stellar album. But stunningly they have decided to split up. Band member Stephen has taken the parachute and leapt into the abyss. Lone pilot Vito has decided to stay airborne and endure the turbulence (apologies for today's overly metaphorical posts).

It's never nice to see a band get divorced but hey we still have that album to look forward to. To soften the blow here is the smash lead single to listen to until your ears bleed.

Aeroplane - We Can't Fly (Radio Edit)

Dr Dre

He's not a fluke, he's been tried he's the troop. Remember "Turn Out The Lights" from the World Class Wreckin' Cru? The new album confusingly called "Detox" is supposedly being released this year. With Eminem now firing blanks and The Game coming back with some awful shake that ass type rubbish does this mean the West Coast king will be taking back is crown?...We're not really sure who took his crown so that doesn't really work as a figure of speech, but look over there it's Snoop playing with Katy Perry!

Anyway this track is pretty good and has Jay Z on it as well. It's like some terrible movie where some old men show some young whippersnappers how its done. Except everyone is producing on Logic.

Dre Dre - Under Pressure (feat. Jay Z)

Whatever the album turns out like there is one thing for sure. Pimp shit's going down:

Hurts

Check out this clip of Hurts doing their thing at the MAD VMA's this month.

Crystal Castles

If you would like to watch Alice Glass wandering around a graveyard whilst Ethan Kath blacks up, the new video for Celestica can be vid-ied here.

Darwin Deez

Here's a track to kickstart your weekend. We just picked up this sweet remix of Darwin Deez courtesy of the considerable talents of Mr Flash.

Darwin Deez - Up In The Clouds (Mr Flash Remix)

Uffie

First look at the new video from Uffie featuring Pharrell, some nice animations and what appears to be a car covered in stickers of the meatball from Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

Coma Cinema

We must give a shout out to Transparent for this clip. An absolutely stunning video and song combination that will have you hooked from the first til the last seconds. The soaring melancholic melody of the track with the inherent foreboding of the imagery gives it a feel of true cinema.

Coma Cinema - Only

Sweater Girls

Sweater Girls make the sort of perfect sounding lo fi indie pop that your record player is dying to skim it's needle on. Go to the shop and buy a copy of the 7", take your mum's copy of Rumors off the deck and stick this on. Don't believe us? Why not give the link a clickty click and give your laptop some sweet vibes.

Sweater Girls - Haven't Got A Clue

Real Sounds Of Africa

People keep complaining about the vuvuzelas for some reason as if listening to the England band churning out The Great Escape or Swing Low over and over again would be some kind of better alternative. How about putting this ultimate football song on instead:

Real Sounds Of Africa - Soccer Fan

Z-Trip

What happened to Saturday morning cartoons? People are always going to have their favourites from their childhood but seriously you have to feel for the kids today, does Ben 10 stand up to CatDog? No it does not. Saturday mornings should be synonymous with great cartoons and giant bowls of cereal (Crunchy Nut with a Weetabix base, that's what's up).

“If you can’t relate to this song, you’re taking this shit too seriously. It’s hip-hop, man. It’s fucking fun!”

Z-Trip - Breakfast Club (ft. Murs and Supernatural)

Major Lazer Redux

Those who care will remember we posted that super mixtape from the mad decent guys at Mad Decent recently. We felt compelled to do a repeat post because we cannot stop playing this song from the mixtape. A brilliant mix of utterly filthy rhymes and a super dubby version of arguably La Roux's best song:

Major Lazer & La Roux - Quicksand (Mad Decent 2010 re-rub) ft. Amanda Blank

Big Boi AKA Sir Lucious Left Foot The Son Of Chico Dusty

Caught this on MTV this morning...dope

Edward & The Seagulls

Another taster from the Edward & The Seagulls laboratory comes in the form of an homage to the classic track from The Normal. Inspired by the JG Ballard novel 'Crash' this track has been a favourite of many artists to cover over the years from Grace Jones to Vitalic to Duran Duran.

Edward & The Seagulls - Warm Leatherette (The Normal Cover)

Breakbot

New Breakbot video directed by Irina Dakeva premiered today. A beautiful clip for an amazing song that is being re-issued on June 21st with a new remix from Aeroplane

Sebastien Tellier

With a little more bounce to the ounce than the original this remix of a track that defined an album of hits draped in sex and breathless moaning is definitely worth a listen.

Sebastien Tellier - Look (Dirty Little Secret Remix)

Kavinsky

Sticking with the remixes today and following on from Breakbot's excellent offering on the EP here is another Nightcall edit.

Kavinsky - Nightcall (F.O.O.L Remix)

Crystal Castles

Vietnam is one of the standout tracks on the supreme sophomore effort that is Crystal Castles (2010). We found a remix that twists the original menace of the song into some serious Major Lazer territory. It might even bring a smile to Ethan and Alice's faces...though almost certainly not.

Crystal Castles - Vietnam (Lucky Date vs Alex Zelenka Remix)

Uffie

Mark down June 22nd on your calenders. It is the day that Uffie's album lands on this planet crushing all of the unbelievably terrible pretenders in it's wake. We won't be happy unless there's a story in the paper on June 23rd saying "K£$h4 has drowned herself in a tub of glitter". This is why it will be good:

Uffie - Difficult (Produced by SebastiAn)

Fans of Ed Banger should also check out the mag above which goes out this month. Busy P's mix includes tracks from: Flying Lotus, 12th Planet, Das Glow, Carte Blanche and Liars.

Worst Album Cover ever...

Seriously do worse, let's have a contest. Winner gets a round of applause

oooo censorship fuck you youtube for burying my video. At least it might have some good songs in it. Well if XXXO is anything to go by it probably won't but fingers crossed eh.

If only Turbonegro had thought of this one

Gypsy & The Cat

Here's another excellent free track courtesy of those lovely girls at Young & Lost. Hailing from a garage in Melbourne this young duo who list Fleetwood Mac and Daft Punk as influences are creating extremely catchy summery sounds. Make sure this remix from STEEP is on your playlist for the weekend it's going to be a hot one.

Gypsy & The Cat (STEEP Remix)

Definitely worth checking out live:
