Hurts

Their last video cost £20 and was a triumph of dark moody style coupled with a glorious 80s sound reminiscent of Spandau in the good times. This broody effort is the perfect follow up. Simply gorgeous.

Sparrow And The Workshop

We saw this Glaswegian three-piece at The Lexington last year and they absolutely killed it. With the Scottish indie scene stranded in an awful position between Glasvegas, The View and a hard place it is refreshing to see a few bands coming through with some genuinely good tracks. Album is available now but as always here is a little taste for your ears:

Sparrow And The Workshop - The Gun

MIA

New video for a new MIA track. I like to think that the reason for the content of this video is to put two fingers up to Rihanna's people for the shameless rip off that was the "Rude Boy" video. No disrespect we are big fans of that tune but the video? Seriously. Somehow I don't think the rude girl will be copying this clip anytime soon. Although perhaps she dreams of a field of exploding Chris Browns'...we all dream of that.

Props to MIA though, she managed a 9 minute video without a single product placement. We heard she is hooking up with Rusko on the album to be released this summer. Hopefully he won't take this video too seriously. Though we did think the first kid was him for a second.

Mekas pt. II

Inspired perhaps by Mekas' previous musings on the subject of "changing one's mind" we shall henceforth be showcasing our love of cinema a lot more upon this forum. Yeah you remember our previous posts about certain movies. Well there will be more in the future. If and when we can be bothered to remember to post them up.

USA-A-OK - Lithuania - Also OK

Apparently the NFL draft finished tonight so we felt compelled to put up the most American track we could think of.

On a completely unrelated note apparently Lithuania produces popstars. Watch this space to see the evidence that may or may not exist. We do know however that they make excellent filmakers:

The XX

One of our favourite bands of last year might be whoring themselves all over the place ad wise but at least they are still making great videos. As slick, minimal and thoughtful as their signature sound.

Jamaica Mixtape

Another fantastic mixtape courtesy of Ed Banger. Pedro says he wants to take the label into a more melodic direction and these guys are certainly evidence of that. We are still bopping along to Breakbot and Jamaica's first singles and this is a great addition to the collection.

Tracklist:

1. Cream – White Room
2. Bob Seger – Love The One You’re With
3. Jimmy Ross – First True Love Affair (Larry Levan Mix)
4. Automat – Droid (Cecil Edit)

6. In Flagranti – Louvre For Yo

8. David Rubato – Circuit (Siriusmo Remix)
9. Harry Thumann – Sphinx
10. Azari & Ill – Hungry For The Power
11. Ali Love – Love Harder (Extended Version)
12. Prince – I Would Die 4 U

15. Electric Light Orchestra – Last Train To London

Jamaica - Bermuda Mixtape

Grum

Bit of an alternative to the standard girl populated house music videos. We love the ending.

Last Night

Amazing performance from Moses And The Black Cats last night, truly a band to look out for and we hope they will come play with us again. Keep an eye out for some photos from the night as well as other goodies. We'll be back in May with another show with a new lineup including the London debut of Decimal Decimal.

Picture Book

How about this for a slice of ravey electro pop. Picture Book are a global band currently residing in Liverpool where they are gigging all over the place. Hopefully they will venture south for the summer, we'll be waiting for them.

Warm Leatherette

We have been tuning into the excellent Vice guide to film which features the classic Normals track Warm Leatherette for an intro. After an obligatory youtube search we found this fantastic cover courtesy of Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor.

Crystal Castles

Oh how we have waited for new CC material for so long! It is nearly here though our sources tell us. The tour starts soon as well which includes a gig at London's Heaven on April 20th which is definitely one to watch out for. It's been a while since we have seen the glorious sight of Alice flailing around the stage whilst Ethan scowls over his Korgs For now though why not enjoy this sumptuous remix courtesy of Midnight Conspiracy.

Supergrass (RIP)

Die "Fookin'" Antwoord

We have covered these South African rap troupe before but we have been playing the album a lot recently and thought we would share one of our favourite tunes. It features Jack Parow who has an amazing vocal style and sounds very Cypress Hill at times which is pretty awesome. FRE$ FUTURISTIK!

Die Antwoord - Wat Pomp

Moses And The Black Cats

We are big fans of this band and are excited to announce that they will be playing on our first night in Camden next week. So why not come down and witness these great upandcomers before you have to actually start paying for them. That's right it's free...what's your excuse?

Robyn

So Robyn is going to release three albums this year. We have the trailer here and the track listing for Body Talk pt. 1. First track Fembot is streaming on the site and its a classic slice of Swedish electro pop: "I've got some news for you...fembots have feelings too"

Body Talk Pt. 1
:

1. Don't Fucking Tell Me What To Do
2. Fembot
3. Dancing On My Own
4. Cry When You Get Older
5. Dance Hall Queen
6. None of Dem
7. Hang With Me (acoustic)
8. Jag Vet En Dejlig Rosa

Chapel Club

Its time for another melodramatic indie band to step into the fray and with White Lies seemingly out of the picture Chapel Club have taken the reigns. Using a pretty standard post punk formula of a wall of guitar sound coupled with aggressively emotional lyrics. O Maybe I is a superb piece of reflective frustration and stands up well to anything their contemporaries have made.

Decimal Decimal

New month means new tracks from our very own Decimal Decimal. We'll be debuting them at the first Back Door Man night in Camden next week. Come along and hear some great tunes and a special guest performance from some more friends. Stay tuned to the blog for the reveal this week.
